Wedding Invitation FAQs

Happy Sunday everyone! How is your weekend? It has been quite an eventful week for myself, one that I'm glad is over! Last Sunday I managed to spill boiling water on myself while cooking, which resulted in two trips to the ER, lots of medication, and lots and lots of pain. Hopefully this will be a better week!

I am often asked the same questions about wedding invitations, and find myself offering suggestions based on the wording brides send to me, so I thought I would provide a few guidelines for commonly made mistakes:
  • Writing the year - it should be written how it's said 'two thousand thirteen', not 'two thousand and thirteen' (here in the US)
  • Honor vs. honour - honor is the American version, honour is the British spelling
  • Street addresses and zip codes are typically omitted from wedding invitations
  • Wedding invitations are worded in the third person - 'The honor of your presence is requested at the wedding of...' not 'We invite you to our wedding...'
  • The reply by date on response cards is typically 3-4 weeks before the wedding. You may want to check with your venue to see when they need a final headcount, and give yourself an extra week or two to track down anyone who didn't respond.
Do you have any other wedding invitation questions? If so feel free to email me: brittany(at)cricketprinting.com.

There are lots of exciting things in the works for the next few months including brand new designs, a new contest/giveaway (or two), and so much more! In the meantime, if you're interested in a custom designed invitation suite please contact me asap. We can discuss what you have in mind and if it's a design I'd like to add to the 2013 collection, I'll be able to offer you an awesome deal on the design cost! And lastly I'm planning the next contest/giveaway and if you have any ideas on what the contest or prize should be I'd love to hear them! Please email me: brittany(at)cricketprinting.com.

Customizing Your Wedding Invitations

One of the best aspects of working with a custom stationery studio (aside from working with someone one-on-one) is the number of custom options that are available. Brides (and grooms!) are able to choose the fonts, colors and patterns of their choice to perfectly match their wedding.

I often get asked exactly how invitations can be customized so here are some ideas, but really the sky is the limit. The wording (of course) can be changed in any way you'd like; it can be changed from formal to casual (or vise versa), to indicate who is hosting the wedding, or to include additional details such as a wedding website.

The fonts can then be customized to fit the formality and feel of your big day and you as a couple. Hundreds of fonts are available ranging from formal serif block fonts, to gorgeous modern calligraphy-inspired fonts. And new fonts are constantly being added, so if you don't see the exact font you're looking for, just ask!

The ink and envelope colors can also be customized to match your wedding. Looking for something in coral that's shown in gray? Not a problem. Want to use a fun colored envelope instead of a more traditional white envelope? Great! Colored envelope options can be seen here, and ink color options can be seen below. Also, each sample from the Etsy shop comes with a color swatch card which allows you to see these color options in person.

And your invitations can also include patterns, either on the front of the invitation behind the wording, on the back of the invitation, on the response postcard or additional insert card, or on a bellyband (another great way to make your invitations unique for you!).

Please contact me at brittany(at)cricketprinting.com with any questions about customizing your invitations to perfectly match your big day!

Super easy, right? Two winners will be chosen and the winning boards will be featured here on the blog next week. Limit two inspiration boards/entries per person, and the contest will end on Tuesday, April 10th 2012.

Happy Easter and have a wonderful weekend!

Happy Weekend!

Happy weekend everyone!  Any good plans for the weekend?  It was a great week around here, with a current bride receiving her invitation proofs and calling me a 'rock star genius'  - that made my day.  Additionally a recent bride contacted me to let me know her (amazing!) wedding photos were featured on her photographer's blog.  It is so amazing to talk to a bride for months and months via email and craft an image of what they might look like, and then see photos that are so different!  Be sure to check out the blog post here featuring a photo of her lovely invitations, the beautiful bride and her absolutely gorgeous dress, and the amazing photos!

New Design

Well I'm currently on vacation in Florida for the weekend but I'm still sneaking in time for work (of course).  I got a few minutes today and was able to post three new items in my Etsy shop!  Here's the first new design, which seems fitting since I'm currently in the sunshine state surrounded by palm trees (and loving this weather and spending time with my precious niece by the way!).
So here it is!  I've named this design after my friend who got married this summer in an absolutely beautiful beach wedding.  Her invites included starfish and she kept persisting that I add a starfish invite to my shop, so here it is!

Happy weekend! =)
